31-10-07 -  Vinnie is sitting in 4th.

Going into the final event of the slalom series Vinnie has got himself a ranking of 4th place in the Challenge Fleet. With a podium finish at Poole at the weekend he could get himself into the top 3. Fingers crossed the forecast is wrong and the conditions come through to create a thrilling end to the season.

For those of you who might have seen the Local paper from last week, YES that

is a picture of our very own ‘Master’ Stuart Ord Hume on his paddle board with Molly.

14-11-07 -  Finally there is the possibility of wind.

The majority of the forecasts are now giving strong southerly’s or South South Westerly’s

On Sunday morning. There will be a lot of rain with it, but there is no doubt that there

Will be a lot of sailors heading to  the coast for the first wind for several weeks. Lets

Hope that this will be the start of the Autumnal winds that have not yet blown this year.

Why not pop into the shop and check out the new and offer equipment listed on our

Board and Sail pages.

29-11-07 -  Sunday 2nd December is looking Good

For those lucky few that have braved the very cold temperatures and been able to

get out during the week, or on  Sunday 18th the wind has started to return.

This coming Sunday the 2nd December looks like  another excellent day with

a strong South Westerly  forecast and warmer temperatures for here in

Worthing.

For those of us that still feel the colder weather we have a vast selection of Winter

wetsuits from Neil Pryde, O’neill and other brands along with Mits, Hats etc to help

compete with winter sailing.

5-12-07 -  Mike is back on the Water

We have seen a fantastic few days of wind down here at Ferring starting last Friday. Following his recent absence from the beach Mike returned to the water last Friday for a gentle sail breaking him back in gently. He missed both Saturday and Sunday but again sailed today (Tuesday) in what has to be described as excellent conditions. Both Mike and Vinnie were out for a couple of hours both on 5m and Mike on his new Excocet Cross 84. The board was so good that Mike even got his fin clean out of the wave!!!!!

11-12-07 - What a weekend!

Well the forecasts were right and we had some fantastic conditions over the

weekend, although it was too strong for some.

Saturday brought 50mph southerly winds and a reasonable swell here in Ferring

with a number of sailors braving the conditions for what turned out to be a fantastic

afternoon.

Sunday brought 40mph westerly’s with an awesome swell. Only a few sailors managed to

get off from the beach including our own Vinnie and Sam who had a good hour or

so playing on the waves.

7-2-08 - Back to normal at the weekend!!!!!!

I am sure many of you have noticed that the shop has been closed up for a few weeks. This weekend Mike and Sue are back from there trip to Barbados. Hopefully they will have had plenty of wind, sunshine and it obviously has been a lot warmer than here.

Here at Ferring we have had an amazing start to the year. Although  last weekend was very cold, it has been fairly mild the majority of the time. Even the wood slicks that floated in several weeks ago could not affected the our sailing. The beaches at Worthing still have piles of wood piled high and they are hand picking the last pieces up by hand. On a blast along the beach from Ferring to the pier on Sunday we were amazed by the site of the wood stacks from out at sea.

We are now entering the start of the 2008 season and both Sam and Vinnie are busy preparing for there respective competitions. The windy conditions have been providing good training sessions and helping to improve fitness levels.

Click here to find out what competitions Vinnie is entering this season.

We are heading towards a break from the wind with a run of light Easterlies for the next few days. Hopefully the high pressure will move away quickly and we can return to the windy weather we have recently been experiencing.

In the meantime why not pop into the shop and see what fantastic offers Mike and Sue have in stock.

Details of Our demo days for 2008 will be posted here very soon along with details of how we are going to be supporting The National Windsurfing Week.

14-2-08 - What’s coming up this Spring!!

Mike & Sue have been back a week now and are well and truly back into the swing of things.

They have returned from Barbados buzzing with the new craze to hit the water. Whilst on there winter break they had a go on the Starboard SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board) and got bitten by the Bug. Since there return to the UK they have ordered some of the larger boards and have started to prepare for the Spring Demo day which will include  Starboard and the SUP! Check out our Stand up Paddle Board page. Click here for the link.

If the SUP does not take your fancy why not look at the large selection of Kayaks that we have in stock. Perfect for those summer weekends and evenings when the sun is shining and there is no wind. The Kayaks are light and durable,  perfect for all the family. Check out our dedicated Kayaking pages above or pop in the shop for a chat with Mike or Sue.

13-3-08 - What a week of wind.

What an excellent few days of wind we have had here in Ferring. Monday was the strongest of the week. The wind combined with a very high tide and storm surge created a sea not seen very often on the south coast. Only a few managed to get out either side of high tide for a sail including both Vinnie at Ferring and Sam at the Café. Click here to see pictures Vinnie took prior to sailing.

Tuesday continued the windy theme again with big seas, although not as big as Monday. Vinnie & Mike both managed to sail after high tide and made the most of the large waves and gusty strong winds.

The wind went westerly on Wednesday and was very gusty. A number of people sailed off of Ferring making the most of the lighter evenings.

13-4-08 Vinnie makes a good start

Vinnie started his 2008 season at the weekend in Clacton.

Despite leading the fleet in 1st place over night on Saturday he finally finished in 3rd Place.

Click here to see his weekend report.

17-4-08 Demo Day (20th April 2008)

Well, its been a bit of an indifferent start to the year, really good gales in January, a beach full of wood in February and a pretty cold March with a splattering of decent wind at various times and April apart from 4” of snow a couple of weeks ago has already produced the 1st sea breezes of the season, last Friday was forecast 20-25 mph and by mid-afternoon under a nice blue sky and sun…….it was suddenly 30 + knots……and Saturday morning was windy too…….lets hope for more in the coming weeks.

This is just a quick mail to let you know we have a Gaastra/Tabou/Exocet demo day this coming Sunday ( 20th) Ian Kraft who is a regular on the UKWA circuit is now employed full time with Surf Sales and he will be at Goring for most of Sunday with a good selection of equipment, unfortunately at the moment it is not a brilliant forecast for Sunday……….but stranger things have happened !

Had a long chat to Dave White this morning and he is super keen to get a good equipment demo down here one day, this is the 5th time we have had Gaastra/Tabou down at the ‘Gap’ and have not really had a good classic Worthing day yet. Dave has decided that in the next few weeks with the evenings getting longer …..on the strength of a good forecast he will load his wagon, grab Krafty, and with the aid of  instant e-mail, do an impromptu demo, this will probably be mid-week ….afternoon and evening….so look out for a short notice call !

We will also have a Starboard paddle board on the beach for any of you who fancy a go………..its great fun, paddling is set to become a very big participation watersport, just wait for the summer to arrive,

Hopefully see a good number of you on Sunday ……….make a note , we have another demo day on Sunday 18th May……NeilPryde and JP Boards.

18-6-08 Starboard - Tushingham - Sit on Kayak & SUP Demo day

We are pleased to finally announce that we are to hold a Demo day on Sunday 20th July 2008, and we will be showing Starboard windsurfing boards, Tushingham Sails, Sit on Kayaks & The latest on the water craze of Stand up paddle boards.

We will be on the beach at Ferring from 1030, so why not come along and either try some new windsurfing equipment or a totally new sport in Kayaking or Sup’s.

High tide is at lunchtime, so there will be plenty of water and not a long walk to the water’s edge.

We look forward to seeing you all there, and fingers crossed for the weather!!!

1-7-08 Guy Cribb Bournemouth to Brighton

Last Saturday (28-6-08) Guy Cribb launched with 17 other sailors from Bournemouth through to Palace Pier at Brighton. This event is the longest windsurfing event in Europe and is over 100 miles. Cribby and two other sailors (Jamie Hawkins & Matt Wemms) made it to Brighton in 6 to 7 Hours.

Due to Kit failure and the challenge running late Guy and the sailors cancelled their stop here at Ferring and Shoreham. Our own Vinnie was waiting on Ferring beach for Cribby to do the last two legs from Ferring to Brighton. Once it was confirmed that Cribby had past Worthing Vinnie & John McIntyre launched for Brighton in glorious sunshine and a steady 25 knots of wind.

They planned a quick break at Shoreham beach before pushing on around the harbour and the final run into Brighton and the palace pier. They both arrived safely on Brighton beach around 7.30pm and were seen sat in their wetsuits having a beer in the Volk’s Bar.

Below is there GPS track from the event.

7-7-08 Hove - JP Slalom Series 4th event.

Vinnie was in action at the 4th Slalom event of this season. The wind had been

promised and did not fail to deliver. Saturday provided a steady 20 knots from

the SSW providing 8 heats on a downwind course. Although the shore-break did

prove tricky it did not really interfere with racing.

Sunday dawned and as promised the wind was blowing a steady 30 knots

from the South. A simple course was laid, due to the boats and marks not holding

anchor. The sea was building quickly and 3 heats were held, incorporating all fleets.

Vinnie held his own against the top flight sailors and finished 2nd in his fleet in all

three heats. The race officials called an end to the event at lunchtime as the beach

closed out with a massive shore-break.

Vinnie finished the event as 1st place master in the Challenge fleet and was very pleased to be part of the winning proceedings for the 2nd time this season. Click Here to see Vinnie’s  report of the event.

16-7-08 - Worthing Watersports Demo day this Sunday (20th July 2008)

This ones a bit different from usual, its not really a windsurfing day which means its bound to be a gale force day.

Ocean Kayak are coming to Goring beach with a selection of Sit-on kayaks and Tushingham are also coming with a selection of paddle boards, both of which are the watersport worlds fastest growing sports worldwide.

So if you or anybody you know is interested in having a go at an alternative watersport…………..come down to Goring on Sunday…….the weather for Sunday is looking pretty good for these 2 watersports at the moment, dry, sunny and light NW wind which means the water will be quite flat, but should the wind swing round ( sea breeze ) then Tushingham will also have a van load of Tushingham sails and Starboards that can also be used.

On the day Dave ‘Vinnie’ Standing will be helping with windsurf and kayak activities, our resident stand-up-paddler, Dave Maledy will be helping the paddlers and Chris and George will also be on hand for Ocean Kayak and Tush………oh yes …..and Sue will be on site somewhere!

23-7-08 - Worthing Watersports Demo - Sunday (20th July 2008)

Last Sunday, the 20th July we held our very first demo day dedicated to Kayaks

and Stand Up Paddle Boards. We were graced with blue sky’s a moderate North

Westerly wind and warm temperatures. The wind kept the sea mirror flat, perfect

for our customers to try both the kayaks and SUP’s to there full potential.

Sue, Vinnie & Dave were busy with a steady flow of people wanting to try the

different craft available on the beach. Sue kept busy on the beach, whilst Dave

& Vinnie looked after things on the water. (It was to nice a day to stay dry!)

Even Barney did not want to stay on the beach and took advantage of a free

ride on the SUP with Dave.

Whilst the day was dedicated to SUP’S and Kayaks Vinnie could not resist

putting a sail out of the Tushingham Van on a SUP and going for a sail.

The day was so successful that we will be holding similar day’s in the future. Watch the web site for further details.

6-1-09 Happy New Year - What’s happening in 2009

Well……..another year comes to an end and as per last year, it seems to have been a strange one weather wise again, not as wet as the summer of 2007 but a lot of East or North East wind which for this coastline is not too good.

The year started with tons of wood washed up onto the beach in very mild January ‘gales’………but then it seemed to go down hill with almost a whole ‘season’ and more, Feb, Mar. April, May and June with lots of North to East winds, so once again the demo days that we had organised never really got going……….but then just as summer should have arrived (?)……we got 2 months of SW gales…..mmmmmmmmmmm….lots of 3.5-5.0 weather, just what you would expect for June and July !........and that was it really, bits and pieces of wind for the remainder of the year but really……..for the last 2 months we have had pretty much Siberian weather with very little usable wind and only a  few sailors have ventured out……

And that’s it, 2009 has arrived ……..it would be really really nice just to have a normal year for once, mild and windy March/April…….some sea breezes for May/June…….bit of a heat wave for July/Aug…….then back to mild and windy for the Autumn……we can only hope !

We have arranged a demo day with Tushingham and Starboard for Sunday May 17th, after 3 years of windless demo days……….this one has got to be a good one ! !

The star of the Starboard fleet at present is the ‘Kode’, it comes in 3 wave sizes, 2 Freestyle wave sizes and 3 more wave/freeride sizes…….its a fantastic board, make sure you come down and give one a go…….you’ll be amazed.

After an absence of 2 years, Guy Cribb is reintroducing his ‘tour’ of the UK during 2009 and will be visiting Goring beach to hold one of his famous ( infamous ? ) clinics……..if you have not done a day with Guy……….you really should……everybody improves on something.

06-02-09 - Vinnie Starts his 2009 Season

Vinnie started his 2009 season last Sunday at the Hayling Island Sailing Club Winter Series. The day went well and he finished the event in 2nd place behind Dan Simpson.

Check out his report here……..

He will be continuing his campaign this coming Sunday at the 2nd heat of the 5 week series.

15-03-09 - Vinnie and Karen have a baby girl

Congratulations to Vinnie and Karen, who had a baby girl on Friday (13th) evening.

Both Karen and Emily-Rose are both home and doing very well.

Check out some pics here……..

Also on June 7th we will be holding a sailing clinic hosted by Ant Baker who is now running

sailing clinics as ‘Baker Windsurfing Academy.

This will be a full days coaching with a world cup sailor covering all aspects of windsurfing

from kit set-up through basic skills to all types of gybes to jumping/looping if the wind conditions

permit…….

details and to reserve your place…..a day not to be missed.

We have ordered clear blue skies, warm temperatures and stacks of wind so put both dates in your diaries and get yourself to Ferring Beach.

28-04-09 - Spring News letter

Hi Everyone,

Thought it was time to get another update out with what’s happening for this season …….so, how’s the windsurfing been of late ? or even for the last 6+ months……pretty poor I guess . We have had so many customers come in for a chat and express their frustration with regard this wind drought.

It can only improve…..and with May just around the corner, hopefully with warmer temperatures …….we will be getting some Sea Breezes, especially after such a long cold winter, although the sea is warming up nicely it was pretty cold in the winter months and this is good for generating the wind.

Anyway a couple of things for your diary.

Most of you will have met our shop sponsored sailor Dave ‘Vinnie’ Standing and this weekend he is taking part in the ‘Windsurfing 4 Cancer’ ….sunrise to sunset marathon at Hayling Island……please have a look at Vinnies website …www.gbr203.co.uk  ……this has all the details of the event ….he is sailing with Dave White who himself has experienced a cancer problem and its probably a fact that we all know someone who has also had this unfortunate illness……Vinnie will be sailing from Sunrise, approx 5.30am to sunset, approx 8.00pm…..14 + hours ……he would appreciate as much support as possible and hopefully a few donations for his effort. Click here to go straight to his sponsorship page……..

Good luck Vinnie !

Our next event will be on Sunday May 17th, we are hosting a Tushingham and Starboard demo day, hopefully for the 1st time in 3 years…..we will have a windy day, surely on the scale of probability we have a chance. We will email with more details nearer the time…..although it is only 2 weeks this week-end away.

After this we have another event ……this time with the Baker boys.

Many of you will already be aware that Nik Baker ( 20 years on the PBA tour) is now the Mistral, Fanatic and North importer and his new office is about 10 minutes from our shop.

We have decided to get fully behind Nik’s new venture and Mike is now using North rigs……look out for the Yellow sails on the water. Sam Darkin, who is the current junior UK wave champion, and also a shop sailor, will also be seen with his North ‘ Code Orange ‘ sails blasting and looping around Ferring beach….. There are 3 points to make here really….

a)    Nik has a van full of demo gear and on any day of the week it is all free to try, if there is a particular board or rig you would like to have a go on ….on any useful windy day….give us a ring either the day before or even on the day and Nik will drop it off……or maybe he will just come down the beach and have a sail with you !

b)    We are having a Mistral…North….Fanatic demo day on Sunday June 7th, Nik will be at Ferring beach with all the toys and available to chat and answer all your questions.

c)    We mentioned the Baker boys above…..thats because Nik’s brother Ant, another world cup sailor who has been residing in Australia for the last few years….is also back in the UK and will be helping Nik at events and getting his Baker windsurfing academy up and running.

d)    One of his 1st events will be on our demo day …June 7th….Do you want to spend the day with a ‘world class sailor ? ‘ Teaching….sailing…..talking….rigging…in fact everything from blasting to looping….if the answer is yes ( and it really should be ) then get signed up for the day, places are limited and it is only £60 for the whole day…..see attached poster.

Lastly, we have a sit-on kayak demo day on Sunday July 5th,  again at Ferring beach…….so for anyone who has family or friends….or even yourselves, that fancy trying another water sport………this is a great opportunity. Ocean Kayak will be bringing a full trailer of all the popular boats.

That’s it for now, we will mail again nearer the time of these events,

Best Regards,

Mike and Sue

30-11-09 - Vinnie finishes the season 2nd Master

The 2009 season has now finished and Vinnie finished as 2nd Place Master behind Boards magazines Fred Willis. Vinnie has also now managed to secure top sponsorship for the coming year with Pryde Group Uk. Alongside Jamie Hawkins he will now be riding the latest JP boards powered by Neil Pryde Sails. He will also be carrying demo kit for all those wishing to try something new.

In October Vinnie also competed in the HISC Autumn series. He sailed very well at the event and won all races. The wind on the day increased steadily and Vinnie continued to hold onto his 9.2m despite others changing down to as small as 5.8m. Once the adrenalin had worn off Vinnie realised that he had damaged his left shoulder again. He is now waiting for further treatment again!!
